Specialists David Beigel is a licensed professional counselor whose dedication to the Children’s Center and it’s mission is noteworthy. For over 23 years he has been coming regularly to meet with parents, observe children and train and support the teachers. Each month leaves his busy private practice to come to an evening staff meeting to talk to the teachers about any concerns or questions they have about the children here. We feel quite fortunate to have his expertise. . Karen Evans is a speech/language pathologist based in the Speech and Language Center of Northern Virginia. She conducts speech and language assessments for children at the Center. If there are children who need extra support with their speech or language but do not qualify for special education services through Child Find, Karen can work with them to ensure that they will be ready to succeed in kindergarten.  Elizabeth Lopez Lingeman is a licensed professional counselor who works with the Center's Spanish-speaking families and teachers. She specializes in cross-cultural mental health services at a community mental health center and in private practice. Mary Rueckert is a pediatric occupational therapist who helps children at the Center improve their gross and fine motor coordination, visual and perceptual-motor skills, attention skills, and self-help skills. She also conducts workshops for the teachers and works in the classrooms to implement activities that will help the children benefit from the activities through out the day. Like David Beigel, Mary has also been coming to the Center for many years and is dedicated to our mission to prepare all of our children to be successful in kindergarten and life. Her skill provides critical support to the teachers. Shannon Barrow replaced Lori in September 2008 when Lori was reassigned.
